First Steps!

Connor took his first steps tonight! For the past several days he's been growing increasingly independent in his co-walking ... going from holding two hands, to holding one, to holding only a finger. You had the sense that he could do it himself if he would just let go. This evening, as my mom was telling him about different types of boats (he got a new boat set as a birthday gift) and promising a visit to the Mississippi River, he took a few steps across the carpet. Luckily I had a great view of the action: I would have hated to have missed his first steps. A few minutes later he repeated the feat. He was very nonchalant about the whole matter. We, myself and my parents, on the other hand, were very excited.
He slept a lot today, no doubt recovering from yesterday's partying. I let him have a whole cupcake WITH FROSTING and a few bites of ice cream. That's the most entirely sweet item Ive ever allowed him to ingest. He handled it with grace. (See action photos above.)
Last week while waiting for our flight from Detroit we met a little tyke about a month older than Connor who was quite the livewire. I observed his mom feeding him a fruit bar and then some of her ice cream shake. He had a little bit too much energy, and I wondered if all that sugar was really so good for him.
